Maasai Cultural Experience

A safari through Mikumi is also a chance to meet the people who call this landscape home. We partner with the Mikumi Maasai Boma Cultural Tourism Enterprise (CTE) to bring an authentic, community-run Maasai experience into your itinerary.

Mikumi Tourism Village, near Mikumi National Park

Set within Mikumi Tourism Village, a short drive from the park gate, the Mikumi Maasai Boma is a genuine, lived-in homestead rather than a staged stop on a tour route. Visitors are welcomed by the boma's chief and hosted by Maasai guides who explain the customs, ceremonies, and daily rhythms of Maasai life, past and present.

The visit is participatory rather than a passive walkthrough — you're invited to join traditional song and dance, watch beadwork and basket weaving demonstrations up close, and hear storytelling that carries generations of oral history. A taste of traditional Maasai cuisine rounds out the experience.

As a community-run enterprise, proceeds from each visit go directly back into the boma, supporting the families and traditions you've come to learn about.
